Materials Planning Manager

Summary

The primary duty of the Materials Manager position is to perform administrative work directly related to the business related to production, exercising discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance by assuring the timely flow of materials to manufacturing, creating work orders to support the production plan, identifying, prioritizing, and expediting materials shortages, and maintaining various reports in support of the production plan. Materials Manager will also be responsible for on time deliver (OTD) for the Business Unit.

 

Essential Functions

 

The Materials Manager develops and supports the execution of a production schedule that ensures the business meets the highest standards of customer satisfaction for on time delivery and responsiveness while achieving its monthly production targets.  Using both MRP and sales order backlog information, and input from the business unit leadership team, the Materials Manager exercises discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance, by making determinations about what work will be organized and released for production.   
  1. Reviews sales order backlog report for top level assembly and subassembly requirements and exercises discretion and independent judgment to determine if these orders are supported by on-hand component inventory.
  2. Exercises discretion and independent judgment by releasing and controlling work orders to support the production plan based on materials availability.
  3. Exercises discretion and independent judgment for releasing materials to  branches while ensuring material needs for the Phoenix branch are still met.
  4. Identifies materials shortages and updates the backlog report with part numbers and due dates.
  5. Exercises discretion and independent judgment by identifying shortages and notifying procurement specialists regarding pending shortages.
  6. Reviews MRP planned orders for assigned commodities and works with procurement specialist to ensure materials are available to support production plan.
  7. Exercises discretion and independent judgment to make decisions regarding inventory levels and works directly with procurement specialist to meet inventory plan goals.
  8. Analyzes MRP to determine the impact of future shortages – create “ What if” analysis.
  9. Exercises discretion and independent judgment when implementing management policies to resolve bill of material issues in a timely manner.
  10. Establishes competency in understanding of the MRP system.
  11. Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. Upper level college coursework related to supply chain systems can be substituted for direct ERP/MRP system knowledge.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Work hours are Monday through Friday and shift start times are determined by your department manager.  Overtime will be required as needed.

 

Travel

Limited (less than 5%) is expected for this position

 

Required Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor’ s degree in Business preferred; Supply Chain Management highly preferred.
  2. 3-5 years of experience in a supply chain/planning role highly preferred
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in using an MRP System

Preferred Education and Experience
  1. Experience in reading, interpreting blueprints
  2. Experience setting up Item Masters and MRP Parameters
  3. Greenbelt or lean certification preferred
  4. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  5. APICS certification or work towards certification preferred
