The Designer/Drafter position is responsible to support the Engineering department by creating layouts and detail drawings of restraint systems, assemblies and detail mechanical parts.


Essential Functions

  1. Create new designs and modify existing products based on specifications coordinated with Engineering, customers, and/or the Sales department.
  2. Familiarity with sheet metal, injection molded, and machining part design.
  3. Participate with team to analyze functional requirements of design and conceive solutions to design problems, including making necessary mathematical calculations using basic algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and CAD methods.
  4. Assist in investigating solutions to product problems of function, design, and manufacture. 
  5. Specify appropriate materials, finishes, tolerances, critical dimensions, processes, standard hardware, and components. 
  6. Make tolerance studies with respect to each dimension and all related dimensions.
  7. Advise Engineering of any problems that arise during execution of design that might impair schedules or technical quality of end item. 
  8. Review issues pertinent to product function, safety and integrity.
  9. Will assure a well-integrated and correct set of drawings that properly document the product.  Must also be able to suggest alternate design ideas to the engineer.
  10. Research and provide information for reports such as shop instructions, product descriptions, field maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and specifications; gather information for trade-off studies; contact vendors to resolve problems within realm of knowledge; coordinate with manufacturing to enhance a new product’ s manufacturability; design tooling, assembly and test fixtures
  11. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and ANSI Y14.5 Drafting Standards.
  12. Proficient computer skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  13. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with co-workers, suppliers, management, and customers in a team environment.

Required Education and Experience
  1. Associates Degree or Technical Education in Design, Drafting, CAD, etc. preferred
  2. Minimum of three years of related work experience.


Preferred Education and Experience
  1. Five plus years of related work experience
  2. Familiarity with aerospace structures
  3. Familiarity with FAA regulations
