The Supplier Quality Engineer works closely on tasks with multiple departments and across business units. The position will be working to monitor performance and develop all of the suppliers. The SQE is also responsible for updating and maintaining the operating procedures and work instructions related to supplier approval and maintenance. The SQE will support the business units in matters of supplier quality performance and conduct supplier reviews and approvals supporting new products and processes.  The position will be responsible for identifying and helping to implement cost and productivity improvements in the supply base.


The Supplier Quality Engineer will provide technical guidance to Receiving Inspection personnel.


The Supplier Quality Engineer must possess above average interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.


Essential Functions:

  • Works with suppliers and engineering on activities for new programs
  • Reviews GD&T, KPC’ s, and gauging methodology with internal technicians and suppliers on new and existing programs
  • Periodic visits and communication with suppliers on quality issues / concerns, which may require travel in North America on short notice.  International travel will be on limited basis as required.
  • Conducts investigations on non-conformance and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.  Tracks corrective actions with suppliers to closure.
  • Works with Manufacturing to solve in-house quality concerns, reviews of non-conforming product, recommends disposition.  Direct interface with manufacturing personnel and within their manufacturing processes is required.
  • Support multiple initiatives including supplier improvement projects and monitoring through closure.
  • Providing support to the manufacturing teams as needed for assembly or test initiatives.
  • Responsible for heading project teams including quality system initiatives, supplier processes or other improvement teams.
  • Provide assistance to other company disciplines to foster manufacturing or supplier improvement activities.
  • Additional responsibilities may include supplier and employee training, participation in continuous improvement events and other improvement programs.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent Organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple databases for quality records.
  • Ability to coordinate procedural initiatives.
  • Update and Maintain supplier scorecard process
  • Manage and track supplier OTD and Quality corrective action plans.
  • Maintain ASL and ensure supplier surveys and regulatory documents are up to date.




Significant domestic and international travel is expected for this position.  Ability to perform physical activities related to various modes of travel of 40-60%.



Required Education and Experience:

  • BS in an engineering / technical discipline preferred
  • Formal and current accreditation as an ISO/AS9100 lead auditor.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in a manufacturing quality systems engineering discipline.
  • Well rounded background in electro-mechanical assembly and test operations.
  • Technical Skills Requirements
    • ISO 9001-2000 / AS9100 Accredited Auditor, or formal training in standard(s)
    • Black belt/Green belt is desired
    • Sound knowledge of S.P.C techniques
    • Sound knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, DOE
    • Sound knowledge of sample submission procedures
    • Knowledge of APQP requirements
    • Working knowledge of gauging methodology and metrology
